If you're a fan of Indian cinema, then Talvar is a must watch. The backdrop of this film is based in India, and it does a wonderful job at portraying the culture and scenery of the country. In terms of drama, this movie excels. It has been acclaimed for its screenplay and sound design, due to its excellent character development and dialogue delivery. The movie also has two powerful female leads which can be rare in Indian movies. The story follows the real life investigation into the 2012 double-murder case of 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar (played by Rajshri Deshpande) and her parents (played by Irrfan Khan and Priyanka Bose). The Aarushi Talwar murder case had an intense media coverage, and this film is based on the events leading to the murders. While there are many more happenings in the story, the film focuses on the investigation, and how Aarushi was murdered. The screenplay of this film does not hold back at all on its content, and goes straight to the point with each scene. The movie mostly takes place between two characters - Manmeet Altekar (played by Aamir Khan) and Siby Malhotra (played by Rajkummar Rao). They are both investigative officers who work together on solving crimes. The director of the film, Vikramaditya Motwane, wanted to make a film that looks at the city of Mumbai through the eyes of two media reporters. Therefore, there are many scenes where Aarushi is in front of one screen while Manmeet is on another. Manmeet Altekar is an investigative journalist who has just joined The Times of India, and is currently doing an internship with Siby Malhotra. He tries to exploit each situation that he encounters in his line of work for his news stories. On the other hand, Siby is a low-profile ACP who is constantly under scrutiny for not solving any case. He is often criticised by his superiors, but ignores them because he feels that they are unjustified. This results in him being demotivated, and doing just about anything to solve the case. When Aarushi's granny (played by Tanushri Chatterjee) returns home after her stay in the hospital, she claims that she has seen something in her dreams. She begins to tell Aarushi's parents about this, and also tells Manmeet about it. This breaks their cover which they had created in order to investigate the family's murder case for The Times of India. Manmeet then goes to Siby Malhotra for help, and asks him to cover the story. He also expresses his frustrations towards everyone around him. He requests Siby to give them more time in order to solve this case, but Siby informs him that he doesn't have the resources required to do so. Manmeet trains himself on how to investigate cases in order to get more stories, and his ways are shown in the film through various scenes where he is sitting in front of different screens.
